Young people got together at The Forum in Southend last Saturday to work on creating a summer reading and art challenge for the 2015 summer holidays.
The new challenge they are creating will include a printed leaflet or booklet that young people aged 11 – 18 can pick up in libraries in Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Luton, Norfolk, Peterborough, Southend and Thurrock.
Their brief: the challenge has to include both a reading and arts activity to encourage young people to visit their library over the summer and to engage with books in a creative and fun way, on paper (or other media) and on this blog!
The group are working with designer Katie Kennedy to come up with ideas, activities and the challenge itself.
Last Saturday the group of young planners was divided up into three and each were given a task to design the following: front cover, activities and layout. The group then came back together to vote on what they would like to have in the final version.
They will meet up again next week to finalise the design, thinking about text, colour, and instructions and to test it out on some willing volunteers. Keep posted for more information to come!
